Kura Valley Irrigation and Dam Project

A 62 m concrete dam and a network irrigating 28,000 hectares of farmland.

The Kura Valley project built a 62 m gravity dam, a 74 km main canal and a distribution network irrigating 28,000 hectares. The roller-compacted concrete (RCC) method used in the dam body shortened construction time by 30 percent. The project doubled agricultural production in the region.

Project facts

  • Contract value: USD 220 million
  • Duration: 36 months
  • Dam height: 62 m
  • Main canal: 74 km

Selvi's role

The project was delivered by Selvi Holding's site engineering and contract management teams across design, procurement, construction and commissioning. Local subcontractors were used, and all site workers received safety training in their local language before starting.

Local contribution

Farmer cooperatives were established under the project, and 2,100 farmers were trained to switch to drip irrigation. The reservoir is operated with a fish passage and a minimum-flow program to protect the surrounding ecosystem.

Technical specifications, tender and reference documents for the project can be shared on request by our corporate development team.
